As reported in the Charity Record, 17 October 1895

Mr. T. Glenton-Kerr, secretary of the North-Eastern Hospital for Children, Hackney-road, is deserving of thanks for letting it be known that the committee of that Charity have had the courage to punish that terror of others than hospital officials, the rowdies who go about ringing bells, knocking door, and maliciously doing any damage when they think it can be done unobserved. Mr. Kerr writes:—* I should be greatly obliged if you would kindly give publicity to the fact that a boy aged about 11 was convicted of maliciously ringing the door bell of this Hospital at Worshipstreet Police-court, on Tuesday last, and was fined 8s. and 2s. costs.

The ‘ runaway ' ring nuisance has always been one of our difficulties, but lately it has become more acute, our night porter being called up recently no less than six times in one night through these false alarms. This Hospital is open night and day for the reception of accidents and urgent cases, and it seems a cruel thing that it should be assailed in this manner.”
