As reported in the East London Observer, on 25 May 1907.

The 39th annual meeting of the North-Eastern Hospital for Children was held on Thursday last. Sir Walter Johnson presided, and there were also present: Mr Herbert Robertson, Mr C. G. J. Port, the Rev. W. G. Morcom, etc.

The annual report stated that the number of children receiving the benefits of the hospital had again increased. The following statement gives figures for the past four years:

Beds Available

It has been found possible to increase the number of beds from 116 to 125, chiefly by means of the urgently needed alterations carried out in March and April 1906 in the two large wards of the older portion of the building.

The receipts for 1906 cannot be said to be satisfactory, the total being £900 less than the ordinary expenditure. A particularly regrettable feature of the year was the falling off in annual subscriptions — £2,301 for 1906 compared with £2,338 for 1905.

The deficit of £749 brought forward from 1905 was increased to £1,593 by December 31, 1906. However, ordinary expenditure was reduced to £10,920 (compared with £11,159 in 1905), largely due to the new nurses' home and laundry.

A further £1,300 was borrowed under the existing mortgage, while £250, kindly given by the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths, was paid off the mortgage, leaving it standing at £9,250 at year’s end.

Through the generosity of Mr Abram Lyle, large balconies were attached to the old wards, completing the system of open-air treatment. In summer, 40–50 patients sleep out nightly with beneficial results.

Grants were received from King Edward's Hospital Fund (£1,500), the Hospital Sunday Fund (£539), and the Hospital Saturday Fund (£220). Mr Arthur W. Beard donated £1,000 for the endowment of the “Marjorie Beard” Cot.

The committee expressed thanks to Lady Amherst of Hackney and Mrs Brenton for their support of the Convalescent Fund.

The Lord Mayor, Sir Wm. P. Treloar, consented to preside at a banquet at the Mansion House on May 28th in aid of the hospital.

The Chairman reviewed the report, noting that £11,000 must be raised annually for maintenance. The report was adopted, officers re-elected, and votes of thanks passed to the staff.
