THE NORTH EASTERN HOSPITAL

The annual meeting of the governors of the North-Eastern Hospital for Children, Hackney-road, was held on Wednesday (ed. 31 May) at the hospital, Mr. Walter Johnson, J.P., presiding.

The report and accounts tor 1904, which were adopted, showed that by means of the appeal of the clergy on behalf of the hospital made at the close of 1904, sufficient funds had been obtained to meet expenditure for the year, leaving a balance to the extent of £208 15s 8d. to be carried forward to 1905.

The building fund had benefited by donations and legacies to the extent of £8,700 during the year, including £3,000 specially given towards the cost of a nurses’ home, and £1,000 given as a special grant by King Edward’s Hospital Fund in addition to the annual subscription of £500.

The mortgage on the new building stood at £8,700, and the hospital was in great need of assistance to carry on its work free from debt as regards maintenance. The result of the luncheon at the Mansion House, presided over by the Lord Mayor on the 22nd ultimo, would be that a little over £4,000 would be handed to the hospital towards the reduction of the debt, and towards general expenses of maintenance.

The number of beds available was now 116, and these were always in constant use. Last year the in-patients numbered 1,258 and the out-patients 24,445, the latter making 66,820 attendances.
