My dear Readers,
I have great pleasure in announcing to you that I sent in £2 from the Whitwar to the Little Folks Ward, soon after the last number of this magazine came out.
I was very pleased with the result of the Christmas Needle-work Competition, and hope that the Prize Winners will be encouraged by their success to go in for the “Flannel Competition.”
The Spring-time seems so bright and gay that I want my “Juniors” to send toys which will make the little poor children bright and gay too. For this purpose the Spring Toy Competition is given.
Those “Seniors” and “Juniors” who were unsuccessful in our previous contests will I hope go by the good old Motto “If at first you don’t succeed try, try again.” Also those who failed to win prizes must remember that they were not really unsuccessful, for their work will help to keep some poor little children warm.
I have now four “toys” and twenty six articles of clothing but I want more for the hundreds of children who are sick and poor.
The Whitwar will now pay for its own typing, but there will be very little profit for the Hospital so we cannot help with so much money as hitherto; let us make up for it by Needlework.
The circulation of the magazine increased the last time when thirty-six numbers were sold and more were asked for than could be supplied, but I want more subscribers still, as, of course, subscribers fluctuate in numbers through one cause or another, and, in trying to make the magazine pay for itself, I feel I am undertaking a serious task. Money subscribed in advance is a great help and relieves me of some anxiety.
I remain,
Yours sincerely,
Gladys Warren
THE EDITRESS OF THE WHITWAR.
